Haha, I was going to log off already, but TOC’s report on the ‘black T-shirt’ protest against CPF annuities just caught my eye, and it’s too good to miss out on. I’ve been scouring the Net for updates on this planned protest, wondering if it did ever materialize. Turns out it did… wellll, just maybe.
So what was the turnout like? To quote TOC:
“Around 30 people were spotted wearing black throughout the five storey shopping mall, but it was unclear how many of them were there for the specific purpose of protesting the annuities scheme.”
I’m not sure if humour was intended, but this tickles me no end. One can just imagine Ms. Chee Siok Chin and her posse of SDP supporters, armed with binoculars and those mechanical push-button counters, scuttling up and down the escalators of Centrepoint, hunting around in Marks & Spencer and Robinson’s… trying to mark attendance.
“Look, look, there got a pai kia with black sleeveless shirt!!!”
“Huh, sleeveless shirt is called T-shirt, meh?”
“Aiyah, blouse, singlet, bikini, as long as black, heck care lah!”
“Eh, see that shop inside, got at least 5 people, all wear black! Same design, somemore!”
“Huh? That one, not the sales staff meh?”
“…”
“Excuse me, Ms. Chee, black-and-white striped shirt, is black or not arh?”
*striped shirt guy moves*
“Oops, paiseh… just now his shirt got shadows on it… acherly is white one…”
Anyway… whoever thought up the black T-shirt protest was probably banking on the simple fact that if you flung a cat into a crowd of Singaporeans, chances are that you’ll hit someone wearing black.
So does this protest prove that Singaporeans will take to the streets over CPF annuities?
Nah… all it shows is that, Singaporeans…. we have a booooring fashion sense!
